Hi! I am
Joseph Assaker
A Computer Vision Engineer
an IDE-like interface!
Computer Vision Engineer... There's a lot to unpack here. Sure, this is the title that best describes me, but I'm much more than that.
First and foremost, I'm an engineer, a Software Engineer - one
who thrives on
problem-solving, algorithms, and data.
My passion for programming naturally evolved into a deep fascination with
AI and
Computer Vision.
I worked on both research and engineering
sides of the field, knowing that true
innovation requires mastering both.
Currently, I'm seeking an engineering role, a role in which I can leverage my expertise to solve challenging problems.

Representation Learning For Pattern Spotting And Pattern Discovery In Historical Documents.
A plethora of computer vision sub-domains are involved in this project, such as transfer learning, one-shot object detection, transformer-based architectures, unsupervised learning and synthetic data generation.
Published a
paper
in ICPR 2024 titled:
Learning-Based Sub-Image Retrieval in Historical
Documents.
Among the contributions is the novel OS-DETR architecture, depicted here.
Built an extensive, flexible and parametrizable codebase in Python/PyTorch raging from model architecture building and training to synthetic data generation.
Taught a total of 150+ hours across 8 programming,
machine learning and web development courses.
These courses were delivered to students ranging from first
year
L1
students all the way to final year M2 students.
Led the development of 10+ computer vision products, most of which being object detection models.
From data collection and labelling, all the way to the model training and optimization, I have been involved in all aspects of bringing a busniess need to life.
- Loitering Detection
- Person Re-Identification
- Abandoned Luggage Detection
- Elderly Falling Detection
- Clothes Type/Color Detection
- Car Model/Color Detection
- Face-Mask Detection
Mentored 20+ interns, managing their tasks and progress and helping them achieve their goals.
Thoroughly followed agile methodology, consisting of daily stand-up and weekly sprint planning meetings.
- Analyzing image content
- Generating contextual narratives
- Animating key narration elements
- Synchronizing visuals & story
As you might have already guessed it, well, I LOVE
Python!
This
is why I made it my
mission to make you also fall in love with Python through my videos that go
through
some of the best features, tips,
tricks and tutorials in Python!
On my channel you'll find two types of content that will be published:
Long-Form Videos: Deep dives into core Python and programming concepts, that will make you REALLY understand how features actually work and rapidly level up your fundamental Python knowledge.
Short-Form Videos: These videos aim to rapidly showcase bite-sized tips and tricks in Python in 60 seconds or less, giving you opportunities to widen your your Python knowledge base.
Other Projects
Other Teachings
- Taught 4 AI courses to university students from the MENA and Asia regions. Attendees ranged from 15 to 60+ students, with an average course length of 15 hours.
- Mentored a total of 6 teams for a period of a month in preparation for their capstone project.
Volunteering
- Teaching/Introducing public school and public university students, as well as teachers, from all ages to the world of coding and electronics (primarily Python programming and Raspberry Pi with various electronic components).
- Participated in the creation and management of an educational social enterprise: the Coder-Maker Club.
- Led the Beirut headquarters. This included the role of Lead Trainer, communication with the parents of our students, logistics reporting, and many more event creation tasks.
